Susannah Brown
Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) – University of New South Wales (2016)
PhD Chemistry – University of New South Wales (2022)
Susannah has over six years of research experience working with high resolution mass spectrometers. Susannah completed a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) degree at the University of New South Wales in chemistry and mathematics, graduating with Honours Class 1 and the University Medal. Susannah completed her PhD in Chemistry in 2022, also at UNSW. Her doctoral thesis focussed on developing top-down mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of intact proteins, and investigating fundamental mechanisms of gas-phase protein ion formation and dissociation, with applications in protein sequence analysis. Since joining the UNSW RNA Institute in 2022, Susannah’s responsibilities have included the provision of professional and technical support to facilitate analysis of RNA products, and assisting in QA/QC operations. She applies the fundamentals of bioanalytical mass spectrometry to RNA analysis and quality control. Her specialty is HPLC-MS/MS analysis of synthetic oligonucleotides.
Susannah also has a keen interest in teaching and mentoring younger scientists, and held a three-year Teaching Fellowship in the UNSW School of Chemistry.
Susannah devotes her spare time to fostering cats for a local animal rescue group, indulging in books and coffee, and playing social games of netball and basketball.
